IT beat Deadpool’s massive box-office record last night

It was just the other day that we shared the news that Fandango reported Andres Muschietti's take on STEPHEN KING'S IT was their highest pre-selling horror movie of all time. And today we have word that they weren't kidding as the film's Thursday night advance screening numbers are in and they are wild.

IT scored $13.7 million last night, which is not only the highest number ever for a horror movie but also the highest number ever for an R-rated movie – beating f*cking DEADPOOL's Thursday take of $12.7M.

For those who don't know, DEADPOOL then went on to score an opening weekend of $132.4M. Expect IT to break that this weekend. Maybe not, considering IT is a brutal horror flick, but still, the word of mouth is so damn good!

I personally saw it last night and I can attest that the film – for the most part – holds up to all the praise. Sure Skarsgard's terrifying performance is hidden under too much CGI, but other than that IT was a faithful and fun adaptation. And you may know how high my expectations were…

IT synopsis:

A group of young kids faces their biggest fears when they seek answers to the disappearance of children in their hometown of Derry, Maine. They square off against an evil clown named Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.

IT is directed by Andrés Muschietti from a script by Chase Palmer & Cary Joji Fukunaga and Gray Dauberman, based on the novel by Stephen King.

The film stars Jaeden Lieberher, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Wyatt Oleff, Jack Dylan Grazer, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Chosen Jacobs, Nicholas Hamilton, Owen Teague, Javier Botet, Steven Williams, and Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
