It has been the big question hovering over Showtime’s “Dexter”: will this upcoming season, its eighth, be its last? At first, the answer seemed to be a “yes.” Then, in December, showrunner Scott Buck left the door open for a ninth season, and possibly more, saying whether or not this year’s will be the last one “has not yet been determined.”
But today brings an announcement that would certainly indicate that Dexter Morgan’s journey is coming to an end.
CBS Corp. CEO Leslie Moonves spoke to Wall Street analysts yesterday and made mention of “Dexter’s” conclusion in the following statement: “We have Ray Donovan coming on with Liev Schreiber, which comes on with Dexter’s last season starting in June, and then we have Masters of Sex.”
Of course, there’s always the possibility that Mr. Moonves isn’t “in the know” enough to determine the fate of the serial killer drama, but one would think that he’s still a pretty reliable source on such matters. Showtime has not confirmed the series is coming to a definitive end yet, but they still have until the summer to make such an announcement.
“Dexter” returns on June 30th.
