Today, we have a look at some potential pre-production artwork for two of Marvel’s Phase Two films, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. I say “potential” because there’s no official confirmation and if it’s a leak it won’t last long. Still, it’s pretty cool and definitely looks legit.
First up is a pretty sweet looking piece of work for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, which shows Bucky/aka The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) taking a swing at Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans). From the looks of the art, it would seem that Cap will be doing some work out of costume, while The Winter Soldier seems to be in full costume, complete with his bionic arm on display. For fans of the comic, the image is a good indicator that we’ll see a proper translation of Ed Brubabker’s Winter Soldier run in the comics.
Next up is a series of shots said to be from director James Gunn‘s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, featuring a dark, cavernous looking environment with a figure surrounded by small orbs of light, a few sleek-looking spacecraft with a city in the background, and finally a “Cantina-like” scene with Rocket Raccoon, Drax, Gamora, Groot, and Star-Lord. Some pretty cool stuff overall. I love seeing this kind of work, as it gives a good peek into the final renditions of the characters, but also the process and intentions of the design team overall.
According to a source at onlocationvacation, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER has begun filming in Los Angeles, with a release date set for April 4, 2014 (one year away!) while James Gunn is currently in London prepping to begin GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, which is set to debut on August 1, 2014.
