From a new supernatural TV show to its inspiration…
After telling you about “Weird Desk” at ABC, news has fluttered in regarding the gold standard of such a TV genre, “The X-Files.” A dubious report of a spoof movie seemed to make its rounds today, but we’re ignoring that for what Den of Geek was able to mine regarding the rebooted TV series featuring good old Mulder and Scully.
After shooting down talks of a new “X-Files” move, producer Frank Spotnitz had this to say:
“I mean, I don’t think I would have anything to do with it but you know, for better or for worse, these things are titles of big corporations, like ‘Star Trek’ belongs to Paramount and ‘The X-Files’ belongs to Twentieth Century Fox and it’s a huge asset in their libraries so I can’t imagine they would let it sit languishing forever … Anything could happen. I just hope that if they do it, they do it well, that’s my only request.”
A good request indeed. But at Fox? How about a middle ground. Instead of another movie or a full-fledged network reboot, why not bust like 4-6 episode miniseries on a pay cabler? Oh right, Fox owns the rights. Either way, it’d be nice to see Mulder and Scully return and show these new programs, these wannabes, how it’s really done.
What says you? In favor of a “X-Files” movie or rebooted series?
