Less than a week ago Ben Affleck signed on to David Fincher's GONE GIRL, an adaptation of the Gillian Flynn novel of the same name. The 2012 book was a best-seller and sold 1.9 million copies, second only to the Fifty Shades of Grey series. When Ben Affleck's involvement was reported there wasn't any news yet on who might be playing the female lead, a very important part in the novel.
Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman and Emily Blunt have all been rumored for the role, but according to THR Rosamund Pike is the latest name being mentioned for the part. A source for THR says there is a lot of interest in the part, however Fincher is going to pick someone who he really wants for the role.
There's been some concern about how the screenplay will look, since most of the first half of the book is diary entries. Gillian Flynn is adapting the novel with David Fincher, and according to THR's source the script shouldn't be a problem since the two have found "a great rhythm together."
Rosamund Pike would be an excellent lead for this, and I have my fingers crossed that the actress snags the part. It's not like she's an unknown actress, but something like this could be huge for her and in my opinion the more Pike, the better.
On the day of their fifth wedding anniversary, Nick's wife Amy disappears. There are signs of struggle in the house and Nick quickly becomes the prime suspect. It doesn't help that Nick hasn't been completely honest with the police and, as Amy's case drags out for weeks, more and more vilifying evidence appears against him. Nick, however, maintains his innocence. Told from alternating points of view between Nick and Amy, Gillian Flynn creates an untrustworthy world that changes chapter-to-chapter. Calling Gone Girl a psychological thriller is an understatement. As revelation after revelation unfolds, it becomes clear that the truth does not exist in the middle of Nick and Amy's points of view; in fact, the truth is far more dark, more twisted, and more creepy than you can imagine.
GONE GIRL is scheduled to start filming in September and will probably be released sometime in 2014.
