With GODZILLA deep into pre-production in Vancouver, it’s about time we found out just who the big fella is going to be sharing the screen with. (Aside from another massive beast.) Deadline.com appears to have the goods on which actor might be the lead in the Gareth Edwards-directed film.
According to the site, Aaron Johnson, best known as KICK-ASS, is the man Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are eyeing. Calling him the “front-runner,” Deadline notes that Johnson won’t make a final decision on whether or not to take the offer until he sees Frank Darabont’s latest draft.
Johnson has had a pretty good run of late; in 2012 he made SAVAGES with Oliver Stone and ANNA KARENINA – which just tallied four Oscar noms – with Joe Wright. He just wrapped KICK-ASS 2, which is coming out later this year.
Despite all the legal troubles GODZILLA has recently found itself mired in, it’s still moving full steam ahead, with a May 16, 2014 release date locked. We’ll keep you posted.
