Is Channing Tatum about to leave Gambit behind?

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It's possible that the upcoming X-Men spin-off film, GAMBIT, may have lost its leading man. The Wrap has reported that Fox's deal with Channing Tatum is quickly unraveling and that the actor may be on the verge of exiting the project. The Wrap's source tells them that negotiations with Tatum are still ongoing but admitted that things weren't going as smoothly as they would hope, adding "something is up."

RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES director Rupert Wyatt recently signed on to direct GAMBIT and has been working with Fox in the process of testing actresses to star alongside Tatum, including SPECTRE's Lea Seydoux. Should the deal with Channing Tatum officially fall apart, Wyatt and the studio will have to scramble to fill the role if they still want to keep the production on track. It was just earlier this week when we learned that GAMBIT is set to begin production in New Orleans this October with a $154 million budget.

Channing Tatum has long been a fan of the character since the announcment of his casting more than a year ago, he even recently referred to Josh Zetumer's GAMBIT script as "killer," so I'm not entirely certain why Tatum reportedly seems set on leaving it all behind. We'll keep you updated; either with news that Tatum has left or that he's managed to snag himself a bigger payday. GAMBIT is still scheduled for a October 7, 2016 release.

Let's play casting director; should Tatum leave, who would you like to see take over the role?
