A few weeks back, actor Morris Chestnut sent out some cryptic Tweets that implied some type of involvement or potential involvement with Marvel's Black Panther, be it a solo film or as part of one of the phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, Latino Review is reporting that another actor is in contention for the role: Chadwick Boseman, who is currently "knocking it out of the park" in 42 with Harrison Ford. The site reports that Boseman is the frontrunner, but that "Marvel is taking general meetings with actors for not only this role but other roles as well."
So, Boseman isn't officially in just yet, but on the short list. This may seem a bit redundant, but what I take this as is that Marvel is absolutely moving forward with bringing the Black Panther to the big screen in one form or another. If I was a betting man, my money would be on THE AVENGERS 2, which is prepping to start shooting early next year, with a number of different characters being rumored to join the already established team. Seeing as the slate is full for phase two in terms of solo films and phase 3 taking shape with DR. STRANGE and ANT-MAN, I think it's a safe bet that we'll see Black Panther in a group film before a solo one. Pure speculation, of course, but that's my thinking.
What do you guys think? Is Boseman a better choice than Chestnut? Is there someone better than both?
