After two false starts to recreate the Universal Monster universe (the first cinematic universe, starting in the 40's with FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLFMAN) with the failures of both DRACULA UNTOLD and the Tom Cruise-led THE MUMMY, Universal seemed to have finally hit their stride with the Blumhouse-produced remake of THE INVISIBLE MAN by director Leigh Whannell.
Now, while there is no evidence that INVISIBLE MAN is necessarily leading to a Universal Monster Cinematic Universe (yet, as DRACULA UNTOLD was retrofitted into that role before abandoning it as well), there is the fact that David Koepp's proposed BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN remake will be in the present day, as is the rumored premise for the upcoming WOLFMAN remake starring Ryan Gosling (as opposed to the 2010 remake starring Benicio del Toro, which was set in the late 1800s).
Meanwhile, Deadline is reporting that Whannell is currently in talks to direct the aforementioned Ryan Gosling WOLFMAN remake! Which sounds good to me! I was a huge fan of Whannell's INVISIBLE MAN (as well as his sadly still underseen actioner UPGRADE), so I'm totally down for his take of a more grounded WOLFMAN! On top of that, you can never go wrong with Gosling (even when his film's aren't great, he's never the problem with them). So I'm definitely looking forward to it!
But what do you guys think? Down for a new WOLFMAN remake? If so, do you think Whannell is the man for the job? Either way, sound off below!
