Invincible trailer shows off Robert Kirkman’s animated superhero series

The first teaser trailer for Invincible has been released! Amazon's animated, and rather bloody, superhero series features the voices of Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead) and J.K. Simmons (JUSTICE LEAGUE) and finds Robert Kirkman adapting his own comic-book series of the same name. The series followed Mark Grayson, the son of an extraterrestrial superhero known as Omni-Man. Mark later inherits his father's abilities, including great strength, flight, speed, and some invulnerability, and becomes the superhero known as Invincible. He also discovers that his father's race, the Viltrumites, don't exactly have peaceful intentions towards Earth.

In addition to Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson and J.K. Simmons as Omni-Man, Invincible also features the voices of Sandra Oh, Seth Rogen, Gillian Jacobs, Andrew Rannells, Zazie Beetz, Mark Hamill, Walton Goggins, Jason Mantzoukas, Mae Whitman (Good Girls), and more. While speaking during the virtual New York Comic-Con panel earlier today, Robert Kirkman said that the series will be following the comics "very closely," but that they're going to be "putting a little bit of spice in there to keep you guys guessing… but all the stuff that you want to be there will be there." The gory violence of the comic will also be honoured in the animated series. "It's a very important element to the story," Kirkman said. "That, to me, is a really cool element of realism that Invincible has. There's some really insane, graphic things that I think would happen when you have super-powerful people coming up against each other, and that has to be maintained."

The official synopsis for Invincible:

From The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, and based on the Skybound/Image comic of the same name by Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, Invincible is an adult animated superhero show that revolves around seventeen-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), who’s just like every other guy his age — except that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). But as Mark develops powers of his own, he discovers that his father’s legacy may not be as heroic as it seems.

Invincible will debut on Amazon Prime Video in 2021.
