A fresh batch of Inventing Anna images has revealed the first look at Shonda Rhimes’ new Netflix series. Inventing Anna marks Rhimes’ first drama series for Netflix. The show boasts a stellar cast with Julia Garner, Anna Chlumsky, Jennifer Esposito, Anna Deavere Smith, Jeff Perry, Anders Holm, and Laverne Cox all set to star.
Per Deadline, here is the official plot synopsis for Inventing Anna:
Written by Rhimes, in Inventing Anna, a journalist (Chlumsky) with a lot to prove investigates the case of Anna Delvey (Garner), the Instagram-legendary German heiress who stole the hearts of New York’s social scene – and stole their money as well. But is Anna New York’s biggest con woman or is she simply the new portrait of the American dream? Anna and the reporter form a dark funny love-hate bond as Anna awaits trial and our reporter fights the clock to answer the biggest question in NYC: who is Anna Delvey?
Today’s new Inventing Anna images give us a great look at some of the characters we’ll meet in the new series, including Julia Garner’s Anna Delvey and Anna Chlumsky’s Vivian.
Inspired by Jessica Pressler’s New York magazine article “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People,” Inventing Anna finds David Frankel directing and executive producing two episodes, including the first. Rhimes also executive produces Shondaland‘s Betsy Beers. Pressler also acts as a producer on the series.
Per Bazaar,
In May 2019, Delvey, real name Sorokin, was sentenced to between four and 12 years in prison for grand larceny. She defrauded hotels, restaurants, a private jet operator, and banks out of more than $200,000 while living an implausibly lavish lifestyle in New York, telling friends and prospective scam victims that she was a wealthy German heiress. Her goal was to set up a new version of Soho House, securing herself a place in the arts scene by going to the right restaurants and clubs and Instagramming herself at the most notable new openings. All this created a credible-looking public image that convinced people that she was who she claimed to be.
Is it wrong that I kind of dig Anna’s style? At any rate, she should make for an interesting subject for Rhimes’ new series. I might have to check this one out.
