Interviews: Prey star Amber Midthunder, and director Dan Trachtenberg discuss their Predator prequel

After over three decades, we finally have a worthy successor to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s original Predator. After three sequels and two spin-off match-ups with the Alien franchise, Prey debuts with a wholly unique approach to the sci-fi thriller series set three hundred years in the past with a primarily indigenous cast of characters portraying Comanche warriors forced to face off against the masked alien predator. Directed by 10 Cloverfield Lane‘s Dan Trachtenberg, Prey is getting an exclusive premiere on Hulu.

I recently had the chance to chat with the cast and crew of Prey about the project. Starting with star Amber Midthunder (Legion), we discussed the challenge of picking up this franchise after so many lackluster sequel attempts. She also talked about the preparation for playing this role and what it took to perform the dubbed track that makes Prey the first feature film to be fully performed in the Comanche language. I also talked with Dakota Beavers about his first acting credit and what it was like playing an older brother much differently than we commonly see on screen. Finally, I talked with director Dan Trachtenberg and producer Jhane Myers about telling such a different type of Predator story and where the franchise could go from here.

Prey premieres on Hulu on August 5th.
