After six episodes, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is shaping up to be an epic tale of a family coming together in a world full of titanic monsters. A few weeks back, we spoke to the creative team behind the Godzilla/Kong-inspired series but did not get the chance to chat with the cast because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Now, with the strike over and the series a hit with fans, we have gotten to talk to the full ensemble of the AppleTV+ series.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is the story “following the epic battle between Godzilla and the MUTOs that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, two siblings, following in their father’s footsteps, uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw, taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga — spanning three generations — reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.“
I got the chance to interview Mari Yamamoto about playing a strong female woman in an era when gender and racial discrimination would have held back a Japanese scientist. I chatted with Joe Tippett and Elisa Lasowski about the dynamic between Tim and Duvall and whether a spin-off is in their future. I talked with Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, and Ren Watabe about joining such a massive cinematic universe and their character’s emotional core in this world. I also talked with Wyatt Russell and Kurt Russell about how they took leads from each other in playing the same character, their amazing hair, and whether or not we could see them in Tango & Cash 2. Check out the full interviews in the embed above.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters premiered on November 17th on AppleTV+.
