Interview: Sebastian Stan and Daisy Edgar-Jones Talk Fresh

It’s only March and some of the best films I’ve seen all year fall into the horror genre. And my oh my do we have a good one with Fresh (read our review here), which made its debut at Sundance earlier this year. The new feature not only adds a kick of a creepy tale, but it also does so with smarts and a surprisingly warm heart. Directed by Mimi Cave and written by Lauryn Kahn, this is a fantastic little feature. One that you’d be better off not knowing much about beforehand. It helps that the cast is superb. Sebastian Stan is excellent as the perfect date with a bizarre appetite. And Daisy Edgar-Jones is exceptional – much like she was in the stunning series Normal People. Fresh opens today, and it may be worthwhile to see a couple of films this weekend as many of you are flocking to another flick about a guy with strange bat habits.

Recently, I had a way too short, but extremely fun time chatting with both Sebastian and Daisy. For Mr. Stan, he opened up about finding the right balance within this amazing script. And how he took on a very intriguing character. The actor has really shined this year with this and Pam and Tommy. As for the lovely Daisy Edgar-Jones – who again, gave one of my favorite recent performances opposite Paul Mescal in Normal People – you couldn’t ask for a better leading lady. The two are delightful together, both on-screen and off. And yes, this unique new horror-comedy allows for a surprisingly nightmarish atmosphere and feels like it probably happens more than we’d think. All of this led to Daisy watching true crime stories to inspire her excellent performance here. Fresh brings something, well, quite fresh, to horror and it’s a must-see for fans and it’s now streaming on Hulu.
