I first caught Ryan Reynolds in VAN WILDER. While I didn’t love the film, I liked his performance. Since then, I’ve liked his work, but haven’t always liked the films themselves. But in ADVENTURELAND, I‘m happy to say that the film and his performance are impressive. His Mike Connell is a sad character, lost in his own delusion of grandeur. I actually knew a guy back in high school just like this. And guess what, Ryan gives a very real performance.
When I sat down with Ryan, I asked him about the nature of his character. He immediately opened up and spoke about playing the role. I think he was just relieved that I didn’t ask about his wife. We also talked about first jobs, including working at what he thought might be a “Peruvian coke shack”. And of course, he opened up about playing Deadpool in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE. Which will certainly be a must see… I hope it rocks. But until then, you can see his work in the terrific Adventureland opening this Friday, hopefully at a theatre near you.
