There is something instantly likable about Roger Avary. He won an Academy Award alongside Quentin Tarantino in 1994 for PULP FICTION yet found an end to a very powerful partnership soon after. He also tackled Bret Easton Ellis with his take on THE RULES OF ATTRACTION which he also wrote and directed, thus helping show the world how hot Jessica Biel really is. He has taken on a variety of stories in addition to those including SILENT HILL and of course, KILLING ZOE. He now takes on as scribe, alongside Neil Gaiman, the legend of
BEOWULF with director Robert Zemeckis. It looks to be another monster of a hit if all goes well, with a top-notch cast including Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins and the utterly cool Crispin Glover.
When I got the chance to talk with Mr. Avary, I found him to be as cool as a dude can get. He is very open and more than willing to talk about his work and especially the excitement that he seems to have for BEOWULF. His films are always pretty fascinating. And it surprised me how nice he was which also made it very easy to interview him. There was no ego or bitterness in this guy, at all. He even told a really cool story about Stanley Kubrick. Go ahead and check it out below. And look for BEOWULF, due in theatres November 16th, 2007.
