Matthew Vaughn has become a major force when it comes to modern action features. Whether we’re talking Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, and the Kingsman franchise. While the outrageous antics of Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, and Samuel L. Jackson sustained two features, Vaughn has taken his latest film to the past. In The King’s Man, the filmmaker has crafted a prequel that stars Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Harris Dickinson, Djimon Hounsou, and the great Charles Dance. Taking place well before the events in the first film, Vaughn once again plays with audience expectations and creates a much darker tone than what we previously witnessed with the sequel.
We recently had the wonderful opportunity to speak with Mr. Vaughn. And much like my interview with co-stars Ifans and Housou, Vaughn took an interest in my posters. And yes, Skyfall is somewhat an inspiration for this particular feature. Then the conversation went back to the subject at hand. Mr. Vaughn opened up about taking the series in a new direction, which includes a few surprisingly dark twists and turns. As well, he discussed working with such talented actors and bringing Rhys Ifans’ Rasputin to the big screen. The new take on this action-packed series will shock some, but considering Matthew Vaughn likes to shake things up a bit, more than a few of you will delight in what he has in store for this latest installment. Look for The King’s Man currently in theatres.
