Interview: Invincible creator Robert Kirkman talks Omni-Man, Peter Cullen, and Season 2 of the Prime Video series

Some names are instantly recognizable to fans outside of the realm of comic books. Stan Lee, Todd McFarlane, Rob Liefeld, and Jack Kirby are just a few. Another to include on that roster is Robert Kirkman. Best known for creating The Walking Dead, Kirkman co-founded Skybound Entertainment and has been involved with hit comics, including Outcast and Invincible. The latter was turned into a series in 2021 featuring the voices of Steven Yeun, Gillian Jacobs, Sandra Oh, and J.K. Simmons, amongst dozens of other recognizable Hollywood actors. Now, after a long wait, the second season of Invincible is debuting on Prime Video (read our review).

The first season followed Mark Grayson (Yeun), the son of Omni-Man (Simmons). When Mark develops superpowers of his own, he wants to not only follow in his father’s footsteps but also become a hero of his merit. Mark gets involved with the Guardians of the Globe, a hero team run by Cecil Steadman (Walton Goggins) and the Global Defense Agency. Over the first season, Mark learns that not only is his father a mass murderer of heroes, but he is also part of an advanced alien race coming to enslave Earth. As the first season ended, Omni-Man left Earth and Mark in the rubble of a decimated Chicago. Season two picks up shortly after as Mark, his mother Debbie (Oh), and his fellow heroes and friends pick up the pieces while facing a new multiversal threat.

I recently had the chance to chat with Invincible creator Robert Kirkman about the new season of the series. We talked about the plotting of the sophomore year and the decision behind splitting the eight episodes into two batches. Kirkman talked about his disdain for binge-watching, his favorite episode this season, and the voice actors he was excited to cast. We also discussed whether more standalone episodes are coming and what could be coming in the already-written third season. Check out the full interview in the embed above.

Invincible’s second season premieres on November 3rd on Prime Video.
