Interview: David Gordon Green and Jason Blum Talk The Exorcist: Believer

If you are going to take on a classic by presenting a series of sequels based on John Carpenter’s classic Halloween, might as well go for another horror heavyweight. William Friedkin’s classic thriller The Exorcist is a brilliant work. It is also one that has a curious collection of sequels. And like he did with Jamie Lee Curtis, he’s bringing back The Exorcist star, Ellen Burstyn as Chris MacNeil. And now we have The Exorcist: Believer hitting theatres this weekend (with a projected $30 million opening), it will be exciting to see how fans react to this continuation of a classic.

We recently sat down with David Gordon Green and Jason Blum. Mr. Green opened up about taking on this particular franchise. While he certainly faced criticism by some for his work with Halloween, I give him credit for adding a fresh spin to both the horror classics. During the conversation, Jason Blum added his thoughts on taking on The Exorcist. For this viewer, I wonder if the inclusion of Chris MacNeil will play a larger role in the upcoming The Exorcist: Deceiver. Here’s the synopsis: Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding has raised their daughter on his own. But when Angela and her friend Katherine, disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.
