We here at JoBlo are big fans of Edgar Wright. All you need to look at is his work with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and the joy that Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End brought. And don’t forget the thrills that both Baby Driver and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World gave his fans. His vision is original and inspired, and in 2021, the acclaimed filmmaker is bringing two of his best with the excellent documentary The Sparks Brothers and the twisted thriller, Last Night in Soho. In the latter, this talented writer/director takes the audience on a wild ride along with the fantastic Anya Taylor-Joy and Thomasin McKenzie. It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen from Mr. Wright, and I advise you to read as little as you can about it before heading to the theatre.
We recently sat down with both Edgar Wright and Thomasin McKenzie (more with her later). While the interview was on Zoom, I had spoken to him a few days before at a screening of The Sparks Brothers. With music playing a huge part in both his recent works, that’s where we started our conversation. Mr. Wright opened up about the specific sound that he went for in the new feature. The director also discussed his fascination with the Sixties and how the music colored the new film. As well, he talked about bringing both Anya Taylor-Joy and Ms. McKenzie along for this excellent new film. Last Night in Soho is one of the most engaging and exciting works this year. The less you know, the better. However, if you are looking for an original, wild and spooky story for Halloween weekend, you’re going to love this.
