Interview: Chloé Zhao Talks Marvel’s Eternals

Where do you go after exploring the world of a nomadic drifter in a critically acclaimed, Academy Award-winning film like Nomadland? For filmmaker Chloé Zhao, she took on yet another sort of group of unique individuals. Although this time, they all happen to be immortal beings who are helping shape humanity here on Earth. With that, the MCU is back with yet another adventure, Eternals. The film stars such high-caliber talent as Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kit Harrington, and more. And it’s gorgeous. Of course, this is not at all surprising with Zhao’s past work. The Eternals have arrived, and you can see what adventures they have in store at a theatre near you this Friday.

Recently, I had the opportunity to speak with this incredible director. She opened up about her work here, as well as her experiences with her Oscar-winning feature. One of the most intriguing things about this latest project happens to be what inspired the look of a new superhero flick. The landscape she explores here has more in common with Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life and even a little bit of Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant than what you might expect for a film such as this. The best thing about the latest chapter in the MCU is just how beautiful it is and the possibility of what could happen with a sequel. And yes, this is something that this major talent opened up about. Eternals is here, and many of you will be heading to theatres this weekend to experience the new feature for yourself.
