Interview: Charlie McDowell Talks Windfall

The latest from director Charlie McDowell is something quite refreshing. Starring Lily Collins, Jason Segel, and Jesse Plemons, Windfall is a slow-burn thriller with a lot of charm. The story revolves around a wealthy married couple who make a last-minute vacation home visit. Unfortunately, when they arrive, they catch a burglar in the act. While in some features, this would take a much darker turn – although this one takes a few dark turns as well. Yet this is a character-driven flick and it makes for an engaging hour and forty minutes of enjoyable dialogue with a couple of twists. In other words, it’s a solid thriller that is currently available on Netflix.

Recently, we spoke to the cast of Windfall about the fun and engaging feature. When we sat down with the film’s director, Charlie McDowell, we talked about the inspiration behind it. With the film being shot on one location, and a very small cast – ones that happen to be available – it’s nice to be able to get the creative juices flowing. Charlie discussed this, and how he and his cast and crew put in the work during the pandemic to create something very entertaining, and a cool movie to escape with. If you are looking for a fun getaway, check out Windfall, currently streaming on Netflix.
