It’s no secret that writer-director-producer Alex Proyas is an incredibly talented, passionate and selective filmmaker. He got his first real taste of fame and success when he directed the memorable action thriller THE CROW in ’94, followed by his cult classic sci-fi drama DARK CITY, in ’98. He made another super successful sci-fi comeback in ’04 with I, ROBOT, before becoming MIA once again. After five long years, Proyas has reemerged and reclaimed his old director’s chair, to create his forthcoming psychological thriller, KNOWING.
Filled with endless suspense and non-stop action, the film is based on a paper, filled with random numbers by a strange girl and buried in a time capsule. Fifty years later, the letter is uncovered with the time capsule and handed to a boy. When the boy’s father (Nicolas Cage) decodes the messages in the numbers, he makes a frightening revelation, which propels him to race against time and save the world from ultimate destruction. When I met with Proyas last week, we sat down and chatted a bit about the terrifying implications and scientific questions posed in this heart-pounding flick. Check out what the sci-fi enthusiast had to say about his personal beliefs, working with the cast and the making of KNOWING.
