I’ve always been a sucker for cinematic takes on the battle between man versus nature. Whether you are talking about a raging beast of an animal, or weather, or the simplicity of a story of survival. Against the Ice is one of those tales. Directed by Peter Flinth, the adventure tells the story of explorers Ejnar Mikkelsen and Iver Iversen. The two men faced off against the elements in ice-covered Greenland in 1909 on a dangerous expedition. This new feature brings excellent performances from its stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau – who co-produced and co-wrote the project – and Joe Cole.
We recently had the opportunity to speak with both Joe and Nikolaj about the new film. For Nikolaj, it was more than just a role, as he was part of the producing team and a co-writer of the script with Joe Derrick. He opened up about taking on this story, and how it all came to be. Joe discussed finding his performance from the original source of this story – the film is based on a book written by the real-life Ejnar Mikkelsen among other writings. The two actors are both quite good here, and it was a real pleasure chatting with them.
Against the Ice is streaming on Netflix now!
