Four years have gone by since the release of Insidious: The Last Key (watch it HERE), and if the fact that a fan-made concept trailer for an Insidious 5 has racked up nearly two million views in the last month is any indication, it looks like the public is ready for another sequel. Luckily, an Insidious 5 is actually in the works at Blumhouse Productions, with Insidious and Insidious: Chapter 2 star Patrick Wilson on board to make his directorial debut on the film.
It’s been a year and a half since it was announced that Wilson will be directing Insidious 5, and during a new interview with Screen Rant he said that filming will finally begin this spring. Wilson told them,
It’s something that I’m super passionate about, and there hasn’t been a day since they pitched me the idea that I haven’t been all in. It’s been a lot of work by Scott Teems, the writer, and me. And Leigh Whannell has helped out obviously a ton, and of course Blumhouse is a great partner. I’ve done a bunch of stuff with them, so I couldn’t be happier to have my first experience with a very helpful and comfortable group of people that, for some reason, trust me. So, we’ll see.”
Wilson will be directing Insidious 5 from a screenplay by Halloween Kills co-writer Scott Teems, based on an idea from Leigh Whannell, who created the franchise with James Wan. The story catches up with the family from the first two films, the Lamberts,
10 years after the last installment, as Dalton begins college.
Wilson is reprising the role of Josh Lambert, and Ty Simpkins is back as his son Dalton. We haven’t heard if the actors who played the rest of the Lambert family are coming back.
