It feels a little strange to look at the calendar and realize that AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR will finally be hitting theaters next week. It's all been leading up to this, and audiences are likely more than a little pumped to witness the epic showdown between the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Thanos (Josh Brolin). That showdown will be made all the more epic as Joe and Anthony Russo shot AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR entirely with IMAX digital cameras – the first time this has ever been done for a Hollywood blockbuster.
After getting their IMAX feet wet during the airport sequence in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, Anthony and Joe Russo knew they needed to go even bigger with INFINITY WAR. In a recently released featurette, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said, "The storyline of Infinity War is big, the cast roster and character roster are big. The visual effects, the worlds we visit are big. The movie had to seem big. And Joe and Ant said let’s shoot in IMAX. And the question up to that point was okay well which sequences. I said no, the entire movie should be shot in IMAX." When the much-anticipated film screens in IMAX theaters, it will be presented in the expanded 1.9:1 aspect ratio which will give audiences 26% more image than they'll see in standard theaters. "The level of ambition in these films is pretty high and we needed equipment to help us fulfill that ambition," said Joe Russo.
