The production company behind last year’s icky horror number CONTRACTED are gearing up for their follow-up, a film called WEEP, which T.J. Cimfel and David White are writing.
WEEP will focus on a character from Spanish folklore called “La Llorona” (The Weeping Woman). The basic story tells of a beautiful woman by the name of Maria who drowns her children in order to be with the man that she loved. In some versions of this tale and legend, La Llorona will kidnap wandering children who resemble her missing children, or children who disobey their parents. People who claim to have seen her say she appears at night or in the late evenings from rivers or lakes in Mexico. (Thanks Wikipedia!)
There is no official plot synopsis for the film yet, but perhaps we can surmise it’ll be a new spin on The Woman in Black?
“It’s no big secret that the Hispanic community makes up a substantial portion of moviegoers,” said producer Raphael Margules. “We couldn’t be more enthusiastic about bringing one of the most well-known characters in Hispanic Folklore to life on the big screen in a way that both honors ‘La Llorona’ and frightens audiences to their core.”
Production on WEEP begins in the Spring.
