Disney is officially moving their Indiana Jones 5 release date back amidst a series of changes to their upcoming slate of films. The highly-anticipated sequel, starring Harrison Ford, was scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 29, 2022. It will now bow in theaters on June 30, 2023. Holy Kali Ma, that’s almost a whole year!
Disney moving its Indiana Jones 5 release date comes on the heels of Marvel rescheduling six of its upcoming film projects. The House of Ideas also removed three of its untitled projects from its master list, confusing many Marvel fans across the globe. According to Variety, these changes are “related to production.” Think of it as a domino effect. If one movie gets pushed, the others must follow. While this is unfortunate for fans, Indiana Jones 5 could probably use some more time in the hopper. After all, the film is still in principal photography, and we don’t want its director, James Mangold, to have to rush things, do we? This movie is a massive undertaking, and we don’t want another Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull situation on our hands, right? This is Ford’s swan song as the character, after all, and we all want him to go out on a high note.
Recently, new Indiana Jones 5 set photos posted by the Daily Mail reignited rumors that the highly-anticipated sequel will involve some form of time travel. In the photos, snapped on location in Sicily, Phoebe Waller-Bridge can be seen dragging Harrison Ford’s Indiana out of a ditch before collapsing in the muck. If you scroll down a bit farther, you’ll see an army of Roman gladiators complete with historically accurate weaponry and armor.
Indiana Jones 5 will once again find Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role, and he’ll be joined by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, and Shaunette Renée Wilson. James Mangold is directing from a script he co-wrote with Jez and John-Henry Butterworth. The film is now slated to hit theaters on June 30, 2023.
