Harrison Ford has found a great resurgence with his acclaimed shows, the Yellowstone prequel series 1923 and Shrinking on AppleTV+. In addition, the legendary star will also join the MCU as he takes over the role of General Thunderbolt Ross in Captain America: Brave New World. But this summer sees Ford donning the fedora one last time as he stars in the swan song for Henry Jones Jr. in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The fifth and final film in the franchise recently had its premiere, and a familiar face would sneak up behind Dr. Jones.
Variety reports on Ke Huy Quan, the former child star who portrayed Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, as he surprises his old co-star by sneaking up behind him during an interview on the red carpet for a photobomb before finally grabbing his attention. Ford erupts into a burst of a happy chuckle and embraces Quan as he jokingly tells him, “You’re all grown up!” Quan can audibly be heard squealing with joy like anyone who grew up watching Ford would do.
Quan refers to the premiere as the biggest Temple of Doom reunion ever as it reunited himself, Ford, Indiana Jones creators Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, the longtime franchise producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall as well as composer John Williams after 39 years. Quan shared his memory of the Temple of Doom premiere, “I still remember the night we premiered Temple of Doom right next door and how much fun we had.” When asked the inevitable Short Round spin-off question, Quan replied, “That is a great question that you need to ask Kathy, Steven, George…[But] are you kidding me? I love Short Round. What a great character. I would like to think he’s following in Indiana Jones’ footsteps. It would be incredible and amazing to revisit that character.”
It is a sweet and appropriate venue for a reunion, although the two have crossed paths before as both ran into each other at D23 last year while promoting their respective Disney projects, Ford with Indiana Jones and Quan with American Born Chinese. Then, earlier this year Quan and Ford would share an emotional moment as Harrison presented the award to the winner for Best Picture at the Academy Awards and was greeted on stage by the newly Oscar winner Quan.
