Star Wars Celebration is well underway at California’s Anaheim Convention Center, but Star Wars isn’t the only franchise getting the spotlight. The first look at the highly anticipated Indiana Jones 5 was also released. The single image shows Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) in silhouette as he crosses a rickety bridge. It’s not huge, but it screams Indy to me. Check out the Indiana Jones 5 first look below!
Harrison Ford told the crowd at Star Wars Celebration that Indiana Jones 5 was almost complete, meaning that we can start anxiously awaiting the first trailer. I look forward to the day we can stop calling it Indiana Jones 5. In addition to Harrison Ford, the sequel will also star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Toby Jones, Antonio Banderas, and Shaunette Renée Wilson. While Steven Spielberg had been expected to return to direct Indiana Jones 5, he stepped down in 2020, saying that he wanted to “pass along Indy’s whip to a new generation to bring their perspective to the story.” James Mangold stepped in to replace Spielberg as director and he also co-wrote the script with Jez and John-Henry Butterworth.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy recently said that they would never make an Indiana Jones movie without Harrison Ford. “Some people have talked about how, well, maybe [Solo: A Star Wars Story] should have been a TV show,” Kennedy said. “But even doing Solo as a TV show without Harrison Ford as Han Solo…it’s the same thinking. Maybe I should have recognized this before. We would never make Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford. Having just finished the fifth movie, I can tell you, there wasn’t a day I wasn’t on set where I wasn’t like, Yes—this is Indiana Jones.” Indiana Jones 5 will be released on June 30, 2023.
