HBO is currently in production on In Treatment, a revival of the 2008 drama series which starred Gabriel Byrne as Dr. Paul Weston, a psychotherapist who had weekly sessions with patients, but also began to question his own abilities and motives, leading him to seek help from his former mentor and therapist Dr. Gina Toll (Dianne Wiest). The new series will star Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New Black) as Dr. Brooke Taylor and Variety has now reported that Joel Kinnaman (The Suicide Squad) will be joining the series as well.
Joel Kinnaman will be playing Adam, Dr. Taylor's "long-time on-again, off-again boyfriend who has resurfaced, bringing further complications to Brooke's personal life." The In Treatment revival will bring a diverse trio of patients under the treatment of the observant, empathetic Dr. Taylor, who is also wrestling with her own issues. The structure of the original series was rather interesting, as episodes aired five nights a week, with each day focusing on a different client. In addition to Uzo Aduba and Joel Kinnaman, the series also stars Anthony Ramos, Liza Colón-Zayas, John Benjamin Hickey, and Quintessa Swindell, but HBO hasn't given the series a premiere date just yet.
Joel Kinnaman will next be seen reprising his role of Rick Flag in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, and he recently teased that the sequel will be pure unadulterated Gunn. "I don’t think [Gunn] had to compromise one iota of his vision," Kinnaman said. "He really got to do exactly what he wanted. And it’s definitely going to be the biggest budget R-rated movie that’s ever been made. And it’s heavily R-rated and super silly. It’s really like childish, childish humor and it also finds these profound moments where you get really emotionally moved. And then it’s super violent and then it’s really silly again…Every character is just so ridiculous." The Suicide Squad will hit theaters and stream on HBO Max on August 6, 2021.
