The previous episode of our The Best Horror Movie You Never Saw video series, released under the “Revisited” banner, took a look back at director John Carpenter‘s 1987 film Prince of Darkness, and in the new episode we’re going right back to the Carpenter well to discuss 1994’s In the Mouth of Madness (watch it HERE). It’s fitting that we’ve covered these two movies back-to-back because they, along with Carpenter’s 1982 classic The Thing, are part of his “Apocalypse Trilogy”, a trilogy of movies connected only by the fact that they deal with potentially world-ending threats.
Directed by Carpenter from a screenplay by Michael De Luca, In the Mouth of Madness has the following synopsis:
When horror novelist Sutter Cane goes missing, insurance investigator John Trent scrutinizes the claim made by his publisher, Jackson Harglow, and endeavors to retrieve a yet-to-be-released manuscript and ascertain the writer’s whereabouts. Accompanied by the novelist’s editor, Linda Styles, and disturbed by nightmares from reading Cane’s other novels, Trent makes an eerie nighttime trek to a supernatural town in New Hampshire.
The film stars Sam Neill, Julie Carmen, Charlton Heston, Jürgen Prochnow, David Warner, John Glover, Bernie Casey, Peter Jason, Frances Bay, and Wilhelm von Homburg.
Our Best Horror Movie You Never Saw series is
dedicated to highlighting horror films that, for one reason or another, don’t get as much love as we think they should. We know plenty of you horror hounds out there will have seen many of the movies we pick, but there will be plenty of you who have not.
