In Search of Tomorrow trailer is a deep dive into classic ’80s sci-fi movies

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

The team behind the successful 80s horror documentaries In Search of Darkness is back but instead of looking into the world of horror, they have created an encyclopedia for '80s sci-fi movies with In Search of Tomorrow. The first trailer has dropped and it's going to be a must-have for science fiction fans.

CREATORVC has recruited director Ivan Reitman, producer Gale Anne Hurd, actor Peter Weller, and many more for in-depth interviews that look back on the extensive and beloved era of '80s sci-fi films. Executive produced by Robin Block and written/directed by David Weiner, the documentary features over 75+ celebrity, artist, and expert interviews as it dives into the complete world of science fiction in film.

In Search of Tomorrow looks to cover the cherished decade by showcasing various films of the genre year-by-year to show just how many different films during that era shaped cinema and gave science fiction a true name for itself. Over 25 new names have been added to the In Search of Tomorrow roster, including Adrienne Barbeau, Lysette Anthony, Bruce Boxleitner, Jesse Ventura, Julie Brown, director Randal Kleiser, Gene Simmons, Joey Cramer, Mark Goldblatt, Stewart Raffill, and John Dykstra. NASA experts, astrophysicists, and futurists are also on deck for the documentary to look at sci-fi nostalgia through a scientific lens while also celebrating future tech and some fun fictional elements as well. In Search of Tomorrow writer/director David Weiner had this to say about the definitive sci-fi documentary:

"In Search of Tomorrow is coming together beautifully. The level of talent participating is a 'who's who' of legendary sci-fi icons, from actors and filmmakers to visionaries and dreamers, and I'm humbled to have the opportunity to sit with them; despite the challenges of indie production in a COVID-complicated environment, we are fortunate to have been able to safely continue our extended interviews. A celebration of imagination in one of the most creatively entertaining decades of film, we are crafting an expansive, four-plus-hour film journey worthy of the amazing content that came out of '80s sci-fi cinema. I can't wait for film lovers and true fans of the genre to see it."

The people behind In Search of Tomorrow have launched an Indiegogo campaign to aid in not only expanding the documentary's current production slate and adding more interviews, but also to allow true sci-fi fans the opportunity to pre-order the documentary and become involved with the filmmaking process as well. Your pre-order will essentially make you a part of the crew and it's a campaign that also served them well on the In Search of Darkness documentaries. I pre-ordered In Search of Darkness II and my name got to be featured in the end credits due to my contribution. It really is a fun little treat for fans of the genre that they will be continuing with In Search of Tomorrow. You can learn more about supporting the documentary but visiting 80sscifidoc.com.
