Netflix has unveiled images from their upcoming film MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM and they hit an exceptionally emotional note because they feature Chadwick Boseman in his final film role.
MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM is directed by George C. Wolfe and is based on Pulitzer Prize winner August Wilson's 1982 play. The film explores racial tensions in Chicago in 1927 while following Ma Rainey (Viola Davis), her Black horn player, and her white management team. Boseman plays Levee in the film and when Boseman lost his battle to colon cancer at the age of 43 on August 28, Wolfe had this to say about working with Boseman on the project:
"Working with Chadwick on Ma Rainey was a glorious experience. Every day we all got to witness the ferocity of his talent and the gentleness of his heart. A truly blessed, loving, gifted, and giving human being."
A virtual preview for the film had been planned before Boseman's death but was ultimately delayed due to his passing. It looks like Netflix is all set to release the film on its platform on December 18, 2020, with the release of these first-look images.
