It seems with all the sequels heading our way and all the 3D talk we’ve seemed to forget about remakes for a little while haven’t we? Don’t get me wrong… there’s still so many needless remakes on the way, but it feels like we’ve been reporting on them less and less. One of the remakes that has sort of died down the past few months is Platinum Dunes’ THE BIRDS.
Now we know Michael Bay and company are hard at work on A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, and chances are after that they’ll head back to Crystal Lake. But what about after that? The producers have countless projects lined up but no word on what’s going to be next. Well there’s a good chance it might just be THE BIRDS after hearing today’s news! According to the guys over at Pajiba the film has scored a new director!
You see Martin Campbell has been attached to THE BIRDS for a while now but another project came along called THE GREEN LANTERN that went and hired the director. Now considering superheros are huge money makers and killer birds aren’t really in demand… it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to guess which project Campbell will be doing. Pajiba reports Campbell has left the project and Dennis Iliades has stepped in to take over the $60 Million production! Iliades is of course the guy behind the LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT remake.
That’s not all either. Are you ready for the kicker? Peter Craig’s script is supposedly being tossed out the window because it’s PG-13 oriented! Iliades will be working on a new script that’s geared more towards an R rated adventure. Normally this would be awesome news…. but THE BIRDS?
What’s your take on this whole ordeal? Personally an R rating presents so many more possibilities in a flick, so I’m always for it. Then again THE BIRDS isn’t really a movie that needs an R rating to do well, is it? Regardless this seems to be the way things are going! Of course none of this is confirmed so be sure to keep it here as we keep a lookout for an official announcement.
