As Heimdall, gatekeeper of the Bifrost Bridge who can see and hear nearly everything which happens in the Nine Realms, Idris Elba occupies an important part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but, as the actor explained to Entertainment Weekly, he can't help but wish that he was playing a bigger character.
"I wish I was more present in the Marvel family. I like what I have, but I also wish that I had a bigger character in the Marvel universe," Elba said, adding that he’s never been approached to play anyone but Heimdall. Idris Elba doesn't want to sound like he's complaining about it, saying "it's been great," but that he also thinks he needs a bit more, "I want to be a superhero. I like the idea of that." The actor was certainly a known talent when he landed the role of Heimdall for the first THOR in 2011, but his star has risen considerably since then, and I can't help but think that had he been offered a role in the MCU more recently, it would have been for something much more substantial.
Sound off in the comments and let us know which other superhero role would be perfect for Idris Elba?
Idris Elba will be reprising his role of Heimdall, which he's played in THOR, THOR: THE DARK WORLD, and AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, for the upcoming THOR: RAGNAROK, and he seems much more optimistic about the upcoming film than he has with the other THOR movies. "I like that I have a little part in Thor. I’m neither movie star or day player. It allows me to do other things I love," Elba said. "The last one [Ragnarok] was fun. The others weren’t fun. They’re work. But on this one, Taika [Waititi, the director] was great."
THOR: RAGNAROK will be released on November 3, 2017, but Idris Elba's most recent film, THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US, in which he stars alongside Kate Winslet, hit theaters today. Make sure to check out a review from our own Chris Bumbray1
