Idris Elba wields a giant flame-thrower in new Hobbs & Shaw image

By now, everyone knows that the FAST & FURIOUS franchise isn't exactly known for its realistic action, in fact, they've pretty much thrown the laws of physics out the window in recent installments, but the upcoming FAST & FURIOUS PRESENTS: HOBBS & SHAW has taken things to the next level of absurdity. Is that a bad thing? Absolutely not.

HOBBS & SHAW will find Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham reprising their roles of Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw as they're forced to team up in order to face a common threat. Johnson took to Instagram earlier today to share a new image of the film's villain, the cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist by the name of Brixton who is played by Idris Elba.

That's one big flamethrower. "THE baddest bad guy the Fast & Furious franchise has ever seen. With a MF’n flamethrower My brotha @idriselba. He’s a bad man. Let’s dance," Johnson said on Instagram. In addition to Johnson, Statham, and Elba, HOBBS & SHAW also stars Vanessa Kirby (The Crown) as Hattie Shaw, an MI6 field agent and Deckard's sister, Roman Reigns (WWE wrestler) as Luke Hobbs' brother, and Helen Mirren (WINCHESTER) as Magdalene Shaw, mother of Deckard, Hattie, and Owen. That's a whole lotta family. Just read that in your best Vin Diesel voice.

Ever since hulking lawman Hobbs (Johnson), a loyal agent of America’s Diplomatic Security Service, and lawless outcast Shaw (Statham), a former British military elite operative, first faced off in 2015’s Furious 7, the duo have swapped smack talk and body blows as they’ve tried to take each other down. But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever — and bests a brilliant and fearless rogue MI6 agent (The Crown‘s Vanessa Kirby), who just happens to be Shaw’s sister — these two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves.

FAST & FURIOUS PRESENTS: HOBBS & SHAW will hit theaters on August 2, 2019.
