Idris Elba to saddle up for Netflix western The Harder They Fall

Over the past few years, Netflix has greatly increased its slate of original films, but back in 2015, the very first Netflix Original Film was BEASTS OF NO NATION, a drama directed by Cary Fukunaga (NO TIME TO DIE) which starred Idris Elba (HOBBS & SHAW). It seems that the actor will be getting back into the Netflix game with THE HARDER THEY FALL, an upcoming western/revenge/drama with an all-black cast.

Set to be directed by Jeymes Samuel, who co-wrote the script alongside Boaz Yakin, THE HARDER THEY FALL will star Jonathan Majors (THE LAST BLACK MAN IN SAN FRANCISCO) as Nat Love, an outlaw who discovers that the man (Idris Elba) who killed his parents two decades ago is being released from prison. Reuniting with his old gang, Love sets out to track his enemy down and take his revenge. It's always a treat when Elba takes on those villain roles, and in a western no less, so hopefully he'll be able to put those gun-slinging skills from THE DARK TOWER to good use. Samuel is a singer/songwriter, better known by his stage name The Bullitts, who was handpicked by Baz Luhrmaan to serve as executive music consultant on THE GREAT GATSBY alongside Jay-Z. That collaboration will continue as Samuel and Jay-Z will write and produce original music for THE HARDER THEY FALL as well.

Idris Elba is one busy dude, having recently starred alongside Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham in HOBBS & SHAW, and the actor is set to return to the big-screen in Tom Hooper's adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's CATS on December 20, 2019. Elba is currently filming James Gunn's THE SUICIDE SQUAD, which is slated for an August 6, 2021 release.
