I'm still not entirely sure what to make of THE DARK TOWER, but perhaps some of that is due to my unfamiliarity with the Stephen King series on which the film is based. Most everything I've seen from the movie has left me filling a little underwhelmed, but I've got to believe that the casting of Idris Elba as Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as The Man in Black points to some as-yet-unseen quality. I suppose we'll find out before too long, but I'm not about to hold my breath. The latest featurette from the upcoming Nikolaj Arcel film spells out a little of what newbies such as myself need to know about the film, with Elba, McConaughey, and Stephen King himself chiming in.
The official synopsis for THE DARK TOWER:

The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.
THE DARK TOWER will hit theaters on August 4, 2017.
