Aaron Sorkin has put words into the mouths of some of Hollywood's most talented individuals, so when it comes to his upcoming directorial debut MOLLY'S GAME, it should come as no surprise that he's hoping to assemble yet another group of talented individuals. Jessica Chastain is still in negotiations for the lead role in MOLLY'S GAME, and now Variety has learned that Idris Elba is also in talks to star in Sorkin's film.
There's no word on who Idris Elba will be playing in MOLLY'S GAME, which is based on Molly Bloom’s memoir of the same name, but the film will deal with the world of high-stakes poker and chronicle the true story of how one young woman ran the most exclusive poker game in town. In addition to directing, Aaron Sorkin will also be writing the script for the film. Most of us know what an Aaron Sorkin script sounds like, but I must admit that I'm very curious to discover what the man will do once he's firmly behind the camera. Idris Elba is currently filming the long awaited adaptation of Stephen King's THE DARK TOWER for Nikolaj Arcel in which he plays gunslinger Roland Deschain alongside Matthew McConaughey's Man in Black.
A synopsis of "Molly's Game: From Hollywood's Elite to Wall Street's Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker" via Amazon:
In the late 2000s, Molly Bloom, a twentysomething petite brunette from Loveland Colorado, ran the highest stakes, most exclusive poker game Hollywood had ever seen—she was its mistress, its lion tamer, its agent, and its oxygen. Everyone wanted in, few were invited to play. Hundreds of millions of dollars were won and lost at her table. Molly’s game became the game for those in the know—celebrities, business moguls, and millionaires. Molly staged her games in palatial suites with beautiful views and exquisite amenities. She flew privately, dined at exclusive restaurants, hobnobbed with the heads of Hollywood studios, was courted by handsome leading men, and was privy to the world’s most delicious gossip, until it all came crashing down around her.
Idris Elba will next be seen (under piles of latex) in STAR TREK BEYOND on July 22, 2016.
