Idris Elba and Johnny Whitworth joins Ghost Rider 2 cast!

Aside from the latest casting news we’ve brought you, two more cast members have been added to the list of demon fighters or demonic creatures. Promising actors on promising roles, I’d say.

Idris Elba and Johnny Whitworth are currently talking to producers of GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE to join the cast. Who will they play? Elba plays an alcoholic warrior monk tasked with finding Ghost Rider. Whitworth plays a criminal who is recruited by the devil to find the boy and is later turned into a demonic creature.

What do you guys think about this set up? Elba as an always thirsty warrior monk and Whitwirth as a criminal baddie? Bring it. Elba has also recently made a comment about starring in another Marvel based film.

The story sees Johnny Blaze, aka Ghost Rider (Cage), hiding out in remote Eastern Europe and struggling to repress his curse. Blaze is recruited by a sect to take on the devil (Ciaran Hinds), who wants to take over his mortal son’s body on the kid’s birthday.

GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE has Cage reprising the role as the anti-hero biker  with Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine (GAMER, CRANK) directing it. The flick is set to being shooting in late November in Romania and Turkey. Neveldine and Taylor also wrote the script, working off a story by David Goyer. Avi Arad, Ari Arad, Michael De Luca, Ashok Amritraj and Steven Paul are producing.

The two cast members have not been casted completely out of left field. It seems they’ve been tied to either Marvel or Neveldine/Taylor at one point. Elba plays Meimdall in Marvel’s upcoming THOR (The whitest God you know) and Whitworth has had some working experience with the crazed duo themselves (Neveldine/Taylor) in the Gerald Butler action flick GAMER. The film will premiere on February 17, 2012.
