Ice Cream Man comic book series to be served up as a TV show

Universal Cable Productions is looking to serve up another Image Coimcs property with a television series adaptation of ICE CREAM MAN, a horror-fantasy anthology the likes of TRICK 'R TREAT and TALES FROM THE CRYPT. Created by W. Maxwell Prince, ICE CREAM MAN is a genre-defying comic book series featuring disparate “one-shot” tales of sorrow, wonder, and redemption. Each installment features its own cast of strange characters, dealing with their own special sundae of suffering. And on the periphery of all of them, like the twinkly music of his colorful truck, is the Ice Cream Man – a weaver of stories, a purveyor of sweet treats. Friend. Foe. God. Demon. The man who, with a snap of his fingers – lickety split! – can change the course of your life forever. (via Image Comics)

After the success of their adaptation of Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson's HAPPY!, UCP has tapped Max and Adam Reid (SNEAKY PETE) to bring ICE CREAM MAN to the small screen. In addition to their role as writers on the project, the Reids will also executive produce alongside Chris Bender, Jake Weiner and Jake Wagner of Good Fear Films. Once the team feels that the show is ready for presentation, UCP will look to shop the horror-oriented program to potentail cable and streaming networks for distribution.

While I've not had the chance to read the entirety of the first volume of the series, I can vouch for the outstanding over-sized #1 issue of ICE CREAM MAN. Readers familiar with Michael Dougherty's TRICK 'R TREAT will feel right at home with this one, as the tale begins with a supernatural disturbance in a small town, which is promptly followed by a vicious werewolf attack. October is the perfect month to announce new and promising horror projects, and I assure you, this is definitely one to keep an eye on.
