Somehow, Palpatine returned… again. Although many Star Wars fans weren’t exactly thrilled with the Palpatine reveals in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, it was a thrill to see Ian McDiarmid back in the role. Deliciously oozing evil with every syllable, Ian McDiarmid is just so much fun to watch as Palpatine and the actor recently said that he’s down to return for more.
While speaking with Metro (via StarWarsNews), Ian McDiarmid acknowledged that although Palpatine hadmet his end at the hands of Rey (Daisy Ridley) in The Rise of Skywalker, there’s a chance he could return in a future Star Wars project.
I think I have to accept that, thanks to my ungrateful granddaughter [Rey Skywalker], my annihilation was finally final. [But] of course [Darth] Vader is back in the new [Obi-Wan Kenobi] television series, so I suppose it’s not impossible that one day his mentor might be discovered once again skulking in the shadows.
With this new era of Star Wars TV shows on Disney+, anything is possible. As we know that Darth Vader will be appearing in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, that would be a perfect moment for the Dark Lord of the Sith to have a meeting with his master. The Mandalorian has also dropped a few teases that could tie in to Palpatine’s eventual resurrection. Would you like to see Ian McDiarmid return as Palpatine in a future Star Wars movie or TV series?
Our next dose of Star Wars will arrive with the Obi-Wan Kenobi series that will find Ewan McGregor reprising his role of the former Jedi Master, with a theme from the great John Williams! The series begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. It will debut on Disney+ on May 25, 2022.
