A specific premiere date was not revealed, but Amazon announced during their Comic-Con slot today that their series inspired by the slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer (watch it HERE) – and the 1973 Lois Duncan novel that film was based on – will be released sometime this October. This is fitting not only because it's just in time for Halloween, but also because the I Know What You Did Last Summer movie arrived in theatres on October 17, 1997. (And I was there to see it on opening weekend.)
Coming to us from Amazon Studios, Sony Pictures Television, and Original Film, this take on I Know What You Did Last Summer was written by Preacher and Gossip Girl alum Sara Goodman, with Craig William Macneill (Lizzie) directing the pilot. The show has the following synopsis:
In a town full of secrets, a group of teenagers are stalked by a mysterious killer a year after a fatal accident on their graduation night.
That sounds like I Know What You Did Last Summer alright.
Filming took place in Hawaii. Goodman serves as executive producer alongside Shay Hatten, Original Film's Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty, Atomic Monster's James Wan, Rob Hackett, and Michael Clear, plus Erik Feig, who produced the '97 film with Moritz.
While character details have been kept under wraps, we do know that the show stars Madison Iseman, Brianne Tju, Ezekiel Goodman, Ashley Moore, Sebastian Amoruso, Fiona Rene, Cassie Beck, Brooke Bloom, Bill Heck, and Sonya Balmores.
I Know What You Did Last Summer was a big deal for me in the late '90s (as was the sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer), so I will definitely be checking this series out. Here's hoping Amazon won't wait much longer before revealing the exact release date – and giving us a trailer to look at.
