In September of 2014, it was announced that genre regular Mike Flanagan and his frequent collaborator Jeff Howard would be scripting a remake of the 1997 slasher movie I Know What You Did Last Summer (watch the movie HERE), which had been based on a 1973 novel by Lois Duncan. Several Flanagan horror projects have been released since then – Hush, Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass, among others – but his take on I Know What You Did Last Summer never got off the ground. Instead, we got an Amazon Prime series that was executive produced by James Wan and cancelled after one season. In the new episode of our video series WTF Happened to This Unmade Horror Movie (formerly known as The Horror Movie That Almost Was), we try to figure out why Flanagan’s version wasn’t made, and what it could have been. Check it out in the embed above!
The 1997 version of I Know What You Did Last Summer has the following synopsis:
After an accident on a winding road, four teens make the fatal mistake of dumping their victim’s body into the sea. But exactly one year later, the dead man returns from his watery grave, and he’s looking for more than an apology.
The WTF Happened to This Unmade Horror Movie series focuses on
the various horror projects that could never seem to get things off the ground, be it for budgetary concerns, creative differences, or just an ever evolving Hollywood landscape. We dive into every aspect and see just how close these films had come to cameras rolling.
This episode was Written, Narrated, and Edited by Tyler Nichols, Produced by John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
