Madeline Zima (Californication) and Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds) have signed on to star in the horror thriller Hypochondriac alongside Zach Villa (American Horror Story), Devon Graye (I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore), Chris Doubek (Boyhood), Marlene Forte (Fear the Walking Dead), Adam Busch (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Michael Cassidy (Army of the Dead), Debra Wilson (Dead 7), and Peter Mensah (Midnight, Texas).
Hypochondriac marks the feature directorial debut of Addison Heimann, who Deadline describes as “a queer filmmaker whose goal is to elevate and empower queer characters in the genre space.” Hypochondriac is said to be LGBTQ-themed, and will show what happens when
a young potter’s life devolves into chaos as he loses function of his body while being haunted by the physical manifestation of his childhood trauma.
Heimann has definitely assembled a strong cast to bring that story to life on the screen.
Bay Dariz is producing the film through his Minutehand Pictures banner, alongside John Humber.
Deadline notes that Heimann’s “shorts and web series have played the Chicago International Film Festival, Fantasia, Inside Out, Atlanta International, the Nashville Film Festival, Outfest, and the New York Television Festival, among others. They can also be seen online via Dust, Omeleto, Film Shortage, and Revry.”
I haven’t encountered Heimann’s work before, but I’m a fan of several of the Hypochondriac cast members so I look forward to seeing how his first feature is going to turn out. It’s especially cool for me to see Peter Mensah on the list. He has over 50 screen acting credits, including Snake Eyes, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., True Blood, 300, The Incredible Hulk, and Avatar, but I’ll always think of him as Sgt. Brodski from Jason X.
