Hurt: Sonny Mallhi’s Halloween slasher gets a December release date

Last Updated on November 8, 2021

Gravitas Ventures has acquired the North American distribution rights to director Sonny Mallhi’s slasher Hurt, and Deadline reports that they’re planning to give the film a limited theatrical release on December 10th. Hurt will also be released through internet, cable, and satellite platforms the same day.

Starring Emily Van Raay and Andrew Creer, Hurt has the following synopsis:

A soldier reunites with his wife to take in the attractions at their favorite Halloween spot: the “Haunted Hayride.” But when real terror follows them home, they must fight for their lives… or become the next attraction.

Mallhi wrote the screenplay with Solomon Gray and produced the film with Robert Menzies. Melissa Carbone, Dinesh Maneyapanda, Cielo Alano, and Steve Boisvert serve as executive producers. According to Hurt‘s IMDb page, Bryan Bertino is also one of the executive producers – which would be fair, since Mallhi was an executive producer on Bertino’s films The Strangers and The Monster, and produced Bertino’s The Dark and the Wicked.

December is an odd time to release a horror movie that’s set around Halloween, but it’s good to hear that Hurt is finally going to be available to watch regardless of when it’s coming out. Filmed in 2017, the film had its world premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival in July of 2018. So distribution news has been a long time coming for this one.

With the release of Hurt just one month away, hopefully we’ll be hearing more about Gravitas Ventures’ distribution plans very soon. We’ll let you know when we do.

Mallhi previously directed the horror films Anguish (2015) and Family Blood.

Are you interested in Hurt? Did you happen to see the movie at a festival screening? Share your thoughts by leaving a comment below. It’s a Halloween slasher, so I’ll be checking it out.
