Hulu releases new trailer for their dark The Handmaid’s Tale adaptation

I read THE HANDMAID'S TALE in high school as required reading. I remember enjoying it…well, enjoy is the wrong word. I was rather intrigued and engrossed by it. The novel was dark, thought-provoking, and stayed with me ever since then. The themes of sexual enslavement, using religious tradition to justify atrocities, and the resonant themes of class exploitation are as relevant now as they were when it was first published in 1985 (if not moreso).

In the current political climate, something like THE HANDMAID'S TALE is a perfect counter to the rhetoric of "traditional values" that allow great suppression and suffering to occur. And the new trailer for the Hulu adaptation of the novel fortunately seems to be pulling no punches in that regard:

I love how the series looks to be keeping the darkness, the intensity, and the grittiness of the novel intact. And MAD MEN's Elisabeth Moss seems like perfect casting for Offred in what little we see of her (in those quick seconds we see the desperation, intensity, and determination that the character goes through throughout the story). To me, this just shot up to a must-see.

THE HANDMAID'S TALE will premiere on Hulu April 26th, 2017.
