Hugh Jackman comments on potential Disney/Fox deal

Earlier this year Hugh Jackman wrapped up his tenure as Logan/Wolverine with a bravura performance in LOGAN, leaving the role behind on the highest of notes. Even though a deal between Fox and Disney could be announced at anytime Jackman maintains he is done with the role for good, and he still has some thoughts on the idea of Wolverine being in a movie alongside the Avengers.

While speaking to Collider at a press event for THE GREATEST SHOWMAN, Jackman said that he spent his years as Wolverine thinking about how cool it would be to be in a movie next to the likes of the Hulk. Even though that scenario is more possible than ever, he’s accepted that his time as the clawed character is over.

It’s interesting because for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together. And every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head. But it was like, “Oh well, that’s not gonna happen,” and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline — it was just the possibility of it and who knows what’s gonna happen, obviously — I was like, “Hang on!” But I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else I would like to see Wolverine in there.

Certain rumors have been circulating about the deal, one of which claims the deal is indeed done and that Jackman could return as Wolverine. There is no evidence for that at all, and Jackman is perfectly happy having a long list of potential roles awaiting him.

Never before have I felt the landscape so bare — maybe I should be worried about that. But… I just finished, wrapped a film with Jason Reitman called The Front Runner, which is a political comedy and I do feel right now very open and excited to have no idea what is coming next.

News about Jackman returning as Wolverine would be huge indeed, but I agree with Jackman that his time in the role has come to an end. LOGAN ended things so perfect for the character and coming back, and so soon, would undermine the whole thing. He had his time, it was amazing, it ended perfectly, and now it’s time to move on. Sure, no one will be as good as Jackman, but that doesn't mean another actor can't give it the good ol' college try.

You can see Jackman in THE GREATEST SHOWMAN this Christmas, and you can watch LOGAN all day and every day on Blu-ray or digital.
