On Tuesday we learned that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen would be joining the (sort of) new mutants of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, along with the mysterious information that there would be “more to come…”
Seems that “more” has already started to come, with Hugh Jackman in talks to reprise his role of Logan/Wolverine in the time-travelling mutant extravaganza. And by “in talks,” I more mean “it’s just a scheduling thing so don’t get too worried.” The extent of his potential role has not been released yet, as there would be plenty of room for him to have a much larger place in the story considering the nature of its dual timelines and the fact that Bryan Singer/Fox are building some serious connective tissue to the X-MEN films Singer previously directed.
The question is: is this is the last we’ll see of returning X-Men, or do you think there are more yet to come? Fan vote thus far seems most in favor of Nightcrawler, something I would heartily support. But are we going to perhaps see any of Jean Grey, considering her rumored presence in THE WOLVERINE? And is this going to set up an alternate timeline for future films, or do Fox’s five X-MEN films all become part of one official continuity?
Whatever happens and however it manifests, whether fans like it or not, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST arrives in cinemas on June 18th, 2014. Jackman, meanwhile, can be seen reprising his mutant alter ego much sooner as THE WOLVERINE is scheduled to slash its way into your wallet on June 26th, 2013.
